Taken [Hardcover]

I've finished "Taken" the 15th book in his Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais.

Product Description

When the police tell a wealthy industrialist that her missing son has faked his own kidnapping, she hires Elvis Cole and Joe Pike - and Cole soon determines that it was no fake. The boy and his secret girlfriend have been taken, and are now lost in the gray and changing world of the professional border kidnappers who prey not only on innocent victims but also on one another - buying, selling, and stealing victims like commodities. Fortunately, the kidnappers don't yet know who the boy is, but when Cole goes undercover to try to buy the two hostages back, he himself is taken and disappears. Now it is up to Pike to retrace Cole's steps, burning through the hard and murderous world of human traffickers . . . before it is too late.

My Review:

A young Latina girl and her boyfriend are kidnapped by a band of bandits along a Mexican border.  These bandits prey on other criminals because they won't go to the police.  The main theme of this book is about bajadores who steal immigrants bound for the United States.  This kidnapping people organization is often ignored problem along the Mexican border.

Elvis Cole is hired by the mother of the kidnapped woman to rescue her daughter. Cole soon discovers what has happened to her and he enters into a risky and dangerous arrangement with a Korean organized criminal. It's a desperate move and Cole knows it.

When the plan backfires Cole is kidnapped by the bajadores Pike must come to his rescue.  He is backed up by fellow mercenary Jon Stone and he holds nothing back to get his friend back when he follows the trail the bajadores leave in their wake.  He finds out the FBI is also on the hunt for Cole and Pike is on the race to find him before they do and Cole's secret identity is blown and they make a mistake.

This book was very tense at times, fast paced, well researched and well written.  The bajadores are very cruel in their dealings with their victims.

I loved Jon Stone and hope to see him in future books!

My Review:

Joe is obsessed with finding out who killed his friend Bryan Tompkins (Stephanie's older brother and teammate) fifteen years ago.  He cuts all ties with Stephanie and his teammates to protect them when he finds information that a conspiracy originated in Sierre Leona.

Stephanie works at NSA as drone worker when her friend shows her a picture of a beaten Joe dated a month ago.  She knows she can't just sit around and do nothing so she pulls a few strings to see Joe who is malnourished and in bad shape.  He's broken physically and mentally and not to happy to see Stephanie.

I liked how Joe knows that he broke Stephanie's heart when he broke up with her and feels remorse.  He loves her but he can't let the ones who killed her brother and his friend to live.

Stephanie loves Joe, has always supported and stood by him and always accepted things his way.  Loved the way Stephanie took charge this time and she finds out she's stronger than she thinks she is.

Too bad we didn't see the rest of the team because they were away on a mission and didn't get back until the very end.  Loved the get together at the end and the interactions between the teammates and wives/friends.

This book has a ton of action, suspense, well written characters, incredible storyline and vile villains.

The Affair: A Reacher Novel (Jack Reacher) [Hardcover]

I've finished "The Affair" the 16th book in his Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

Product Description

Everything starts somewhere. . . . For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997. A lonely railroad track. A crime scene. A coverup.

A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington.

Reacher is ordered undercover — to find out everything he can, to control the local police, and then to vanish. Reacher is a good soldier. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, he finds layers no one saw coming, and the investigation spins out of control.

Local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux has a thirst for justice — and an appetite for secrets. Uncertain they can trust one another, Reacher and Deveraux reluctantly join forces.  Reacher works to uncover the truth, while others try to bury it forever. The conspiracy threatens to shatter his faith in his mission, and turn him into a man to be feared.

About the Author

LEE CHILD is the author of sixteen Jack Reacher thrillers, including the #1 New York Times bestsellers Worth Dying For, 61 Hours, Gone Tomorrow, Nothing to Lose, and Bad Luck and Trouble. His debut, Killing Floor, won both the Anthony and the Barry awards for Best First Mystery, and The Enemy won both the Barry and the Nero awards for Best Novel. Foreign rights in the Jack Reacher series have sold in more than fifty territories. All titles have been optioned for major motion pictures. Child, a native of England and a former television director, lives in New York City.

My Review:

In 1997 the Army is sending Rangers out of the Fort Kelham military base near Carter Crossing, Mississippi s during a covert action in Kosovo. The mission is hush hush but the people know something is going on because they see Rangers coming in and out of the local bars and stores. Then a horrifying murder of a woman is found with her throat slit, drained of blood, and then posed in an alley as if she bled out there.

The Army believes someone on the military base maybe responsible so they send an investigator to the base to investigate on the inside and also send Reacher undercover to observe and monitor the investigation.

When he reaches Carter Crossing Elizabeth Devereaux the gorgeous police chief makes him out as a military person - since she was a Marine herself, orders him to leave and leave the investigation to her.  When Reacher finds some key details she missed they decide to work together.  She is also trying to solve the murder of two other women who as Reacher digs deeper he realizes they are connected to a conspiracy within the Army.

This book is very fast paced, well written with a great storyline and Reacher is at his best!

I really like how Reacher and Elizabeth worked well together in and out of bed.  I thought the sex scenes were very hilarious in this book - a train is going by very close and everything in the room is moving and bumping or the one outside during the train going by.

My Review:

The heroine Emily Beale is a captain of SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment of the Army) who loves her job and earned her place in a man's world.  She's a take-charge, tough, smart kick-ass women who loves to fly into high stress combat zones.  Then she is pulled off the job to act as the First Lady's personal chief and bodyguard which makes her very unhappy.

The hero Mark Henderson is Major of SOAR and he's known as a hard ass.  No one can please him and when you do well you need to up the ante the next time.  He never shows anyone his human side especially his attraction to Emily.  He's ticked off when she is pulled from his team because he's attracted to her and she's his best pilot.  When she is injured he's right by her side but he's gone by morning. Then when he hears what her mission is he insinuates himself into the scene by playing her ex-boyfriend.

The action scenes were well written, heart pulsing and surreal.  I really enjoyed the technical aspects of the story with how well the description of the helicopters were detailed and Emily's passion for them.

The romance between Mark and Emily is against Army policy (no fraternizing between subordinates) but it was tender, caring, hot and sweet.  You can tell Mark really cares for Emily and wants to protect her from harm.

Savor the Danger (Hqn) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Savor the Danger" the 3rd book in her Men Who Walk The Edge of Honor series by Lori Foster.

Product Description

She may be aloof, and more pretty than gorgeous, but Alani Rivers is the kind of woman a hot-blooded mercenary can't forget, no matter how hard he tries. So when Jackson Savor wakes up next to the naked, sleeping beauty — with no memory of what happened — he knows he's been drugged … even if Alani doesn't.

After she was kidnapped, Alani vowed never to trust another man again. Still, something about this strong, sexy hero with the tender touch makes her want to believe him. As Jackson hunts down a mysterious intruder, he swears he'll move heaven and earth to keep Alani safe. But what really happened that night? And will the truth bring them closer than they ever thought possible — or put Alani squarely in harm's way again?

My Review:

Jackson wakes up and figures out he has been drugged and slept with Alani the girl he has been pining for since "When You Dare" the 1st book.  He has no memory of last nights activities and starts questioning Alani about the details of what happened that night.  He wants to know so he can do it over again.

After Alani was kidnapped she swore she wouldn't trust another guy but something about Jackson makes her melt.  She thinks at first he is rejecting her after their incredible night then is convinced he was drugged and is brooding about it.

Jackson is a sexy cowboy who has many layers which he tries to hide but Alani sees right through him.  Wow they really burn the sheets  It was very funny how he would be in state of arousal all the time and trying to sex her up.

It was a relief when they were both being honest with their feelings for each other and how Jackson was trying to win Alani's trust and to honor the promises he made to her.

It was hilarious during the scene where we see Dare and Trace's reaction to Jackson's relationship to Alani and his masculinity.

We are introduced to two new characters Arizona Storm and Spencer Lark who's the main characters of "A Perfect Storm" the next book in the series.

My Review:

Trace Rivers is undercover and has infiltrated well know human trafficking Murray Coburn empire.  He is hired as his personal bodyguard and it has taken a long time to gain his trust.  He meets Priscilla Patterson who claims she is Murray's long-lost daughter and has a personal agenda with hidden secrets.

Priss has lived in a sheltered life and when her mother dies she takes it upon her self to seek revenge against the man she holds responsible for her mother's life which distracts Trace's agenda.

Trace has a vendetta against human trafficking because his sister Alicia was kidnapped in the 1st book When You Dare and was rescued by Dare.  He's determined to bring down Murray and his man-hungry girlfriend Helene (Hell).

I really loved Trace's character because he was honorable, was trying to keep Priss from getting hurt and didn't taken advantage of her.

Priss on the other hand I didn't really like that much because she was quite prissy, didn't like being told what to do and she certainly ran hot and cold.  I felt for her though because those searches were quite humiliating.

I really liked the romance between Trace and Priss because it was slow building and they got to know each other first before hopping into bed.

Murray and especially Helene (Hell) were very psychotic and cruel.  Helene is determined to get Trace into her bed and would do anything to achieve that goal.

Please don't hate me because I really thought the scenes with Trace and Helene after he was drugged were hilarious (curious to know what was in the drugs to make him like that?)

Well written storyline, fast paced, great characters, cruel and psychotic villains.

18 and Over Book Blogger #14

18 and Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that begins on Fridays and runs through the weekend hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines and Kelly at Secrets of a Book Lover.

The 18 Over Book Blogger Follow is a Friday blog hop with the objective to find and visit other book blogs that share the same interest as you, namely books geared towards the 18 and over crowd, and make new friends!

How to join in:

You should run a book blog that features and reviews mostly adult reads, some Y.A.’s are okay but 18 &  Over adult reads should be your majority.

Make a separate post for the 18 and Over Book Blogger Follow on your blog.

Copy the html for the button above and place it at the top of your post.

List and answer the ‘Question of the Week.’

Place your name and blog title in the linky below and the url for a direct link to your post

Visit the other blogs on the list. If you like what you see make sure to leave a comment and follow so the blog owner knows you stopped by and can return the favor. Following each blog is not mandatory but I know it is always appreciated, and if someone comments saying they’re a new follower it’s polite to follow back. It’s always nice to spread the 18 and Over Book Blog love!

Question of the Week:

Do you, or have you ever, purchased a book solely based on it's cover alone?

No I don't purchase books solely based on the cover alone because the book must have a great storyline, psychotic villains, steamy romance and interesting secondary characters.

Follow My Blog Friday #17

If you are new to the FF fun, Feature and Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Now to make this FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger. If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the drop down link above FEATURES > Features and Follow Friday and get on the waiting list!  It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee and Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

Hey! I’m jfeldt. I love to read – duh! And this last December I set a goal to read a bunch of books off a Face Book challenge. I decided the best way to keep track was start a blog. BOY I’ve been hurled into the world of crazy.

I’m 50% through and hooked on blogging. Stop by and check out my journey. I’m slightly self-deprecating; totally laid back; and mostly un-organized. Also, I sort of make up the rules as I go along; but hey, I have fun, and who doesn’t like fun? Hope to see you around.

Omnom Books

Reading is my drug, i've been addicted since a very early age, and don't think it'll end any time soon. I lived in England, but moved to Australia when i was 14 because of the 'better economy'. Apart from reading, i also love travelling, art, and surprisingly sport, although i'm a terrible loser and can't resist yelling at people when i think they're doing something wrong (how embarrassing!) My friends would probably describe me as funny, lively, and also a complete and utter nerd, due to my unfortunate liking of maths and science.

I started Omnom Books at the beginning of this year as a way to keep track of my formidable pile of reads, and to share my thoughts on them with others. I love meeting new people, and i can spend hours surfing blogs, finding new books and talking with others about our opinions on them. At the moment, I'm slowly reading my way through Tamora Pierce's epic works, right now i am up to Terrier (Beka Cooper #1), and i have Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer on the side. My favourite genres would have to be YA Paranormal or fantasy, with The Mortal Instruments and Paranormalcy being some of my faves as they are made of WIN. Alright...that's all i can think of for now, but hopefully i'll hear from some of you soon (dumbledore!)

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kickass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?

My favorite books mostly share a kickass heroine and a hot Alpha Male love interest depending on the series.  They also share a great storyline and psychotic villains plus good secondary characters.

Kickass Heroine/Hot Alpha Male:

1.  Eve Dallas series
2.  Eve Duncan series

Hot Male Alpha:

1.  Alex Cross series

Edge of Midnight (The Chasing Evil Trilogy) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Edge of Midnight" the 3rd book in her Midnight trilogy by Leslie Tentler.

Product Description

The writer becomes the story when crime reporter Mia Hale is discovered on a Jacksonville beach — bloodied and disoriented, but alive. She remembers nothing, but her wounds bear the signature of a sadistic serial killer. After years lying dormant, The Collector has resumed his grim hobby: abducting women and taking gruesome souvenirs before dumping their bodies. But none of his victims has ever escaped — and he wants Mia back, more than he ever wanted any of the others.

FBI agent Eric MacFarlane has pursued The Collector for a long time. The case runs deep in his veins, bordering on obsession … and Mia holds the key. She'll risk everything to recover her memory and bring the madman to justice, and Eric swears to protect this fierce, fragile survivor. But The Collector will not be denied. In his mind, he knows just how their story ends.

About the Author

Leslie Tentler worked in PR before writing fiction. Her first manuscript won multiple RWA chapter contest awards, including the prestigious Maggie Award of Excellence. Leslie is a native of Kingsport, TN. Growing up, she was an avid reader, first of Nancy Drew novels and then surreptitiously devouring her mother's historical romances at probably too young an age. Her reading interests later moved to dark, contemporary romantic thrillers, which she writes today. She lives in Atlanta.

My Review:

FBI agent Eric Macfarlane is on an official hunt for "The Collector" which has turned personal because he killed his ex-wife.

When crime writer Mia Hale is found blooded, disoriented and showing signs of "The Collector's signature Eric is determined to end his reign of terror.  Mia doesn't remember anything about the sadistic killer who left her drugged and tortured to die on the beach.  She agrees to help Eric by taking a experimental memory enhancement treatment which might help her remember what happened.  It does help but it also brings up a memory that Mia has forgotten when she was a child.  She has met the sadistic killer in her childhood.

Mia is the killer's final and prized possession and taunts Eric with the knowledge that he failed to save his wife.

Edge of Midnight was a thrilling romantic suspense with a very clever and psychotic killer, emotionally damaged FBI agent and a crime writer who becomes the story.  The characters were well written, was fast paced with non stop action from start to finish and a believable sexual tension attraction.
