Sacred Evil (Krewe of Hunters, Book 3) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Sacred Evil" the 3rd book in her Krewe of Hunters series by Heather Graham.

Product Description

A terror born of Jack the Ripper

The details of the crime scene are no coincidence. The body — a promising starlet — has been battered, bloodied and then discarded between two of Manhattan's oldest graveyards.

One look and Detective Jude Crosby recognizes the tableau:

A re–creation of Jack the Ripper's gruesome work. But he also sees something beyond the actions of a mere copycat. Something more dangerous … and unexplainable.

As the city seethes with suspicion, Jude calls on Whitney Tremont, a member of the country's preeminent paranormal investigating team, to put the speculation to rest. Yet when Whitney and Jude delve deeper, what they discover is more shocking than either could have predicted, and twice as sinister …

My Review:

Has Jack the Ripper risen to re-in act his reign of terror in the East Side of New York?

Jude Crosby is puzzled by the killings of women which re-in act the Jack the Ripper killings of the 1800's.  There is myth that Jack the Ripper came to America under an assumed name Jonathan Black who was the head of the House of Spiritualism, the Satanic church which housed his ritualistic practices.

Whitney Tremont is the first of her team The Krewe of Hunters to arrive.  She is set up at Blair House right across from the House of Spiritualism and is partnered up with Jude.  She specializes in film and this helps with her questioning of the movie crew and her other special talents help with the case too.

As they investigate further the murders become more brutal until the final confrontation with Whitney being the last victim which fits the last victim of Jack the Ripper.

Jude is skeptical at first of Whitney and her gang but as he gets to know her better and her investigative skills he realizes they aren't kooks.  He begins to admire and respect her skills which blooms into a loving relationship.

I highly recommend this book if you like historically correct theme, romance that builds up slowly into a loving relationship with a ghost story that is believable.  I thought this third installment was even better than the first two in the series.

5/5
