The End Game: Brit in the FBI Novel (A Brit in the FBI)

I've finished "The End Game" the 3rd book in her Brit in the FBI series by Catherine Coulter.

Product Description

From #1 New York Times–bestselling author Catherine Coulter, the explosive new addition to the remarkable thriller series featuring Nicholas Drummond and Mike Caine.

FBI agent Nicholas Drummond and his partner, Mike Caine, are deep into an investigation of COE — Celebrants of the Earth — a violent group known for widespread bombings of power grids and oil refineries across the country. While investigating a tip from a civilian who’s overheard about a possible bombing plot, the Bayway Refinery in New Jersey explodes. Nicholas and Mike race to the scene and barely escape being killed by a secondary device.

Returning to the civilian’s home to continue their interrogation, they discover the tipster — and the FBI team left to guard him — dead. While Nicholas calls in the assassinations, COE strikes again, this time launching a cyber-attack on several major oil companies and draining their financial and intellectual assets.

But COE has been infiltrated by a deep-cover counterterrorism agent named Vanessa Grace. A bomb-making expert, Vanessa must leave COE and join forces with Nicholas and Mike to stop the organization’s devious plan to assassinate the President. But there’s an assassin on the loose who could tip the scales in COE’s favor, and no one knows his ultimate target, or who has contracted his services.

Working with the CIA, the Secret Service, Mossad, MI-5, and even Savich and Sherlock, Nicholas and his team put their lives on the line to prevent another conflagration — and save the President.

Then someone tries to force her off the M-2 outside London. Again, rumors claim it was a sympathy ploy. When she returns to the United States, she’s nearly killed when a car tries to mow her down while she’s out for a run. No one believes her except FBI Special Agent Davis Sullivan.

Meanwhile someone is following Sherlock. A stalker? Then someone tries to shoot her from the back of a motorcycle, but the assailant gets away. My Review:

In San Francisco Judge Ramsay Hunt is shot in the back after halting a murder trial earlier that day.  A federal prosecutor is missing while his clients are not worried.  Some of the people called in to help are US Federal Marshall Eve Barbieri, SFPD Virginia Trolley, FBI Dillon Savich, his wife Lacey Sherlock, Cheney Stone and even the CIA are called in when Judge Hunt was shot.  Eve, Virginia, Dillon and Lacy are close friends of Judge Hunt and his wife Molly, his daughter Emma and his two twin sons which makes it personal to them.

At the same time, Dillon Savich receives a cryptic note with the words:   YOU DESERVE THIS FOR WHAT YOU DID which sounds like a threat.  When Dillon and Sherlock get a frantic call from Molly asking them to come they rush right away with their five year old son Sean in tow.  Sherlock's parents live in San Fran and volunteer to take care of Sean and they know the Hunt family as well.

FBI agent Harry Christoff is the liason officer assigned to work with Eve and you literally can see the sparks flying from the first moment they meet.  As they investigate further they realize there is two killers involved and that both are very smart, great at disguises and get aways.

Emma has her own subplot being a piano prodigy and Sean's enormous crush on her and his declaration that he is going to marry her.

Backfire is a action packed thrill ride with lots of twist and turns with two very vicious and deadly killers.

My Review:

Storyline:  The book opens up with FBI agent Savich on his way home and stops to buy a few things at the Shop N Go market in his neighborhood. But he stumbles on a 'robbery' that is going horribly wrong and Savich steps in and in a Split Second people's lives are changed. Some are wounded, some are killed and some are emotionally traumatized. The tragedy reaches out to others beyond those first involved.  Then the same victim is shoot and Savich is sure it's not a random target.  He believes something deeper is going on.

Characters:  Savich and Sherlock are married and have a son named Sean and a dog named .  Savich is the team leader and has a specialized laptop which helps solve their cases.

Sherlock has red hair that everyone seems to love and she is quite capable of taking care of herself.  She can be quite stubborn at times too and doesn't let Savich push her around.

Lucy is very dependent and strong character and she doesn't like Coop at first because she thinks he is a womanizer and the rumors she has heard about him.  As they get to know each other better she realizes she is wrong about him.

Coop has a reputation of being a womanizer but really he isn't!  I love his car and he's a really great guy.

Romance:  I really enjoyed the romance between Lucy and Coop because Lucy dislikes him on sight because of his reputation but as she gets to know him she realizes he's a great guy and the one for her.

Killer:  The serial killer named "Todd" has a connection to the "Ted Bundy", yes that "Ted Bundy".  They believe they should continue the rampage and they idolize Bundy.
