Race Against Time: A Novel of Romantic Suspense

I've finished "Race Against Time" by Sharon Sala.

Product Description

Sometimes fate brings you together only to tear you apart

Growing up in the foster system, Quinn O'Meara made a point of never getting involved. But when she discovers a crying baby amid a fiery crime scene, she knows she has no choice. Suddenly in way over her head, Quinn turns to the police, unintentionally positioning herself in the crosshairs of a deadly human-trafficking ring.

The last time homicide detective Nick Saldano saw Quinn, she was still the young girl he'd shared a foster home with. The girl who'd loved and cared for him when no one else had. Now here she was, gorgeously all grown-up — and in terrible danger.

Unwilling to lose her again, Nick insists on keeping Quinn close, especially when the bond they once shared heatedly slides into desire. Quinn finally has someone worth holding on to, but what kind of future can they have when she might not live to see tomorrow?

Next of Kin (Rebel Ridge Novels) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Next of Kin" the 1st book in her Rebel Ridge series by Sharon Sala.

Product Description

Beth Venable has seen too much. Witness to a major mob hit, she's placed in protective custody until the trial. But after her third safe house is riddled with bullets, she goes off-grid to save herself. What the FBI can't do, her kinfolk will.

The beautiful but forbidding Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky welcome Beth back, dirt roads and rustic shacks a world apart from L.A. But her homecoming — even her blissful reunion with strong, silent Ryal Walker — is made bittersweet by the fight she's brought to the clan's doorstep. Hidden in a remote cabin with the man she's always wanted, Beth begins to dream of a new life: her old one. But after so long, with such dangers stalking her … impossible.

But love can distill life down to its essence: an elixir of pure hope, nerve — and the will to survive.

My Review:

While staying at a her friend Sarah's house Beth Venable witnesses a murder taking place next door.  When the mobster finds out there was witness he puts out hit and kills Sarah.  Beth is placed in protective witness protection but the mobster seems to find out which safe house she is taken too.  After the third house has been breached she decides family would be able to keep her safe.

Ten years ago when Beth was seventeen years old her and her family left Rebel Ridge abruptly.  It tore her and Ryal Walker the only man she has ever loved apart.  She never knew the real reason why they left but assumed her parents didn't want her and Ryal together. She places a frantic call to her Uncle and he sets her up with his network of trucker friends to transfer her home to safe and sound where her family can keep her safe.

Beth's grandmother Lou asks Ryal to help protect Beth and they decide to use his grandfather's rustic old cabin up in the Appalachian wilderness as their hideout.  Ryal is now 35 years old and has never married.  He has never forgotten about Beth and all his letters he sent her in Los Angeles came back unopened.  We find out they are fourth cousins and even though there is bad blood between their families he is determined to keep her safe.

As they spend their days in the rustic cabin they finally have a big talk and realize they were both victims in the event that happened seventeen years ago.  Beth is the last to know a big family secret that involves her parents.

This book was very suspenseful, thrilling, high-octave action packed romantic suspense with a bitter sweet romance.

My Review:

After their father's death Holly Slade and her two sisters found out their father wasn't their real father.  They found out there were secrets and danger in their past and they all set out to find the truth.

Holly found out her dad may have been a serial killer known as "The Hunter" and he may have killed her mom back in St. Louis.  She travels to St. Louis to discover what happened to her mom and if her dad lives there still.  She goes to the police with her suspicions about her dad being "The Hunter" and they re-open the case 20 years later.

Bud Tate is the ranch hand who has loved Holly from afar since she was 18 years old.  When bad things start happening he travels to St. Louis to protect Holly and finally confesses how he feels.  He's surprised that she has feelings for him too and their love scenes were really tender, gentle and loving.

The killer was very psychotic and you definitely wouldn't want to catch his action.  He even keeps trophies of his kills and looks at them every night and relives their deaths.

My Review:

Storyline: This book is about three daughters of a Montana rancher who discover the parents are not really their parents and they aren't related to each is a shock to all three.  This is Maria the middle daughter's story

The book opens at the funeral of the man they thought was their dad.  At the will reading they find out he has keep their parentage a secret from them but now believes they should know about who they are and where they have come from.  Maria is the horse trainer and she finds out she's the daughter of Sally a prostitute who is murdered. The killer doesn't not know that Sally's four-year old daughter Mary is a witness. As Sally is dying she asks her neighbor, a preacher, to raise Mary. He does. Mary aka Maria has blacked out memories of her life before the murder.  Now she travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma in hopes of regaining her memory, learning about her biological parents and avenging her mother's death with the help of Detective Bodie Scott.

Romance: The romance developed quickly but it was quite believable and you can tell they both started caring for one another.  I liked that Bodie admitted that he wanted Maria for all time and told her!  Glad that she accepted and didn't run away!

Killer: The killer would do anything to keep their secret and hires some professional killers to eliminate any loose ends.
