Last Wool and Testament: A Haunted Yarn Shop Mystery (Haunted Yarn Shop Mysteries) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Last Wool and Testament" the 1st boo in her Haunted Yarn Shop series by Molly Macrae.

Kath Rutledge is about to learn the true meaning of TGIF — Thank Goodness It’s Fiber .…

That’s the name of the spunky group of fiber and needlework artists founded by Ivy McClellan, Kath’s beloved grandmother. Though Ivy has recently passed on, the members still meet regularly at her fiber and fabric shop, The Weaver’s Cat, which Kath has now inherited. But that’s only the first in a series of surprises when Kath returns to the small town of Blue Plum, Tennessee, to settle her grandmother’s affairs.

There’s been a murder, and it turns out her grandmother was the prime suspect. Before she can begin to clear Ivy’s name, Kath encounters a looming presence in the form of a gloomy ghost. It turns out the specter has just as much interest in solving the murder as Kath. So, with a little help from the members of TGIF — and a stubborn spirit from beyond — she sets out to unravel the clues and hook the real killer .…

My Review:

As Kath Rutledge rushed to her grandmother's funeral she is pulled over by Sheriff Deputy Cole Dunbar.  When Kath explains to him about her grandmother's funeral he starts going on about her death and called her "Crazy Ivy".  As a result Kath gives him a dressing down which he didn't appreciate!

Kath has come to oversee her grandmother's affairs and what she should do with "The Weaver Cat" her shop.  Then she finds out the locks have been changed at her grandmother's home at Lavender Street and it now belonged to Max Cobb.  She is offered a caretaker position at Holston Homeplace Living History Farmby her grandmother's friend Ruth Wood.  She also discovers her grandmother is the prime suspect of the murder of Emmett Cobb at Holston Homeplace Living History Farmby.

She also has to contend with a ghostly spectra of a crying woman and saying, "Em, why did I kill you? and another spectra of man who helps her with her sleuthing.

This cozy was full of interesting characters, set in a small town, witty sayings and the engaging banter between Kath and her ghostly man.

NYPD Red [Hardcover]

I've finished "NYPD Red" by James Patterson.

Product Description
It's the start of Hollywood on Hudson, and New York City is swept up in the glamour. Every night, the red carpet rolls out for movie stars arriving at premieres in limos; the most exclusive restaurants close for private parties for wealthy producers and preeminent directors; and thousands of fans gather with the paparazzi, hoping to catch a glimpse of the most famous and beautiful faces in the world. With this many celebrities in town, special task force NYPD Red is on high alert - and they can't afford to make a single mistake.

Then a world-renowned producer fatally collapses at his power breakfast, and top NYPD Red Detective Zach Jordan is the first one on the scene. Zach works with his beautiful new partner, Detective Kylie MacDonald - who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend - to discover who the murderer might be. But this is only the beginning: the most brutal, public, and horrifyingly spectacular crimes they've ever encountered are about to send all of New York into chaos, putting NYPD Red on the ropes.

Zach and Kylie know there's no way of telling what a killer this deranged will do next. With the whole world watching, they have to find a way to stop a psychopath who has scripted his finale down to the last explosive detail.

My Review:

A special task force is set up to protect the rich and famous movie stars, movie directors and sport stars.  Zach Jordan's partner has been recently injured and he is temporarily assigned Kylie MacDonald a former girlfriend and they both went to the academy together.  Now she is happily married to movie screenwriter.

New York is hosting a "Hollywood on the Hudson" to entice producers, movie stars, screenwriters to come and make their movies there.  One morning a very famous movie producer dies while at a breakfast meeting and the bodies start piling up.

As the two NYPD Red players investigate they realize they are chasing a villain that wants to make the  top story on the front page and to squash "Hollywood on the Hudson".  At the same time Zach as always been in love with Kylie but he's really trying to start a relationship with another women when he realizes Kylie isn't in love with him.

I hate to admit but I had trouble reading this one to the end because Zach seems to be obsessed with Kylie and even at the end he was still in love with her.  Otherwise Zach and Kylie are both very compelling characters and both are good at their jobs.

The Bone Bed (A Scarpetta Novel) [Hardcover]

Product Description

A woman has vanished while digging a dinosaur bone bed in the remote wilderness of Canada. Somehow, the only evidence has made its way to the inbox of Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta, over two thousand miles away in Boston. She has no idea why. But as events unfold with alarming speed, Scarpetta begins to suspect that the paleontologist’s disappearance is connected to a series of crimes much closer to home: a gruesome murder, inexplicable tortures, and trace evidence from the last living creatures of the dinosaur age.

When she turns to those around her, Scarpetta finds that the danger and suspicion have penetrated even her closest circles. Her niece Lucy speaks in riddles. Her lead investigator, Pete Marino, and FBI forensic psychologist and husband, Benton Wesley, have secrets of their own. Feeling alone and betrayed, Scarpetta is tempted by someone from her past as she tracks a killer both cunning and cruel.

This is Kay Scarpetta as you have never seen her before. The Bone Bed is a must read for any fan of this series, or an ideal starting point for new readers.
